How was your lockdown life? For some of us, it was a welcome break from the norm − a chance to forget about all the boring ‘adult stuff’ that can bog us down in our regular lives. However, now we’re finally emerging from our caves, it’s time to start getting everything back to normal and even facing those tasks we might have been putting off.

If you’re ready to get your life back on track, here are some of the things you could do.

Consider Remortgaging

With interest rates at an all-time low, there are some fantastic mortgage deals on offer, so it might be worth looking at remortgaging. There are lots of reasons why remortgaging could be a savvy move for you. You could use the money to pay off debt with a higher interest rate or to finance some home improvements. You could do it simply because you’re currently on a higher interest rate mortgage − just be aware that you may have to pay an early repayment charge or exit fee to switch mortgages, so do the maths before you commit to make sure it will save you money in the long run.

Reassess Your Monthly Outgoings

If you’ve been spending a lot more time at home, you may have noticed things like your monthly energy bills rising. But have you checked out deals from other suppliers? It’s really easy to do. Simply visit a comparison site, input a few details (it helps to have a recent bill from your current supplier handy) and the rest is done for you. You could find switching to a different supplier could save you hundreds over a year.

While you’re at it, why not take a look at the rest of your monthly outgoings and see if there are any other savings you could make? Perhaps you’ve realized you don’t need that expensive monthly gym membership now you’ve discovered the fun of working out in the park? Or maybe that film subscription service could go now you’re not stuck in the house as much. It’s always worth calling your TV and internet provider to see what they can do for you. Often, threatening to leave will materialize into a better deal. A survey by Which? found that 86% of hagglers get a better deal on their broadband and TV.

Shop Around for Car Deals

Did your old banger give up the ghost over lockdown, or have your circumstances changed and you need a smaller, or bigger car? Now might be the time to start looking for a new one. You might be able to save yourself some money in the process by taking advantage of Just Add Fuel deals, which will not only bag you a brand-new car but also covers all your servicing, tax, warranty, breakdown cover and insurance costs in one monthly payment over three years. Which will save you both money and cut down on your financial admin?

Update Your CV

Whether you’ve been made redundant, been on furlough, or simply questioning your career choice over lockdown, you might be thinking about looking for a new job.

If that’s the case, you’ll need to get your CV into good shape. Firstly, could it do with a bit of a trim? If you’re a good 10 years into your career, then consider taking off some of those entry-level positions you have on there, particularly ones that are no longer relevant.

Next, if you’re considering a career change, have a think about any skills or courses you’ve recently taken that could be relevant.

Then, update the formatting. If your CV’s looking a bit text-heavy, break it up into sections and bullet points so that there’s plenty of white space, making it easier to read.
